AN URGENT APPEAL !!
SOME OF THE PHOTOS BELOW HAVE RECENTLY BEEN SENT TO US BY CATHERINE FROM THE AREA AROUND IMPREZZA ACADEMY AND MOST OF YOU WILL KNOW THAT THE TORRENTIAL RAINS HAVE AFFECTED NOT ONLY THE AREA AROUND THE SCHOOL BUT ACROSS LARGE PARTS OF THE COUNTRY. THESE RAINS HAVE RESULTED IN 100s BEING KILLED, THOUSANDS INJURED AND EVEN MORE MADE HOMELESS.
The following photos below show a little of the devastation to the local community in and around Imprezza Academy and how life is made all the more difficult than it already is.
The current situation at Imprezza is that we are situated on a hill so have avoided being flooded. Our buildings are brick built with corrugated roofs so have survived the non stop rains. The majority of our students stayed over the Easter holidays and are still at the school although for much of the time have had to remain indoors. There is an ongoing plan to relocate people who have lost their homes to either camps (such as the one pictured above) or are being placed in schools and churches located on higher ground. Imprezza was considered for this scheme but was considered as full given the number of students and staff already housed there.
The students are staying in for the most of the time for their own safety. However, we have been using our transport to ferry people to higher ground in the immediate area. Schools have not reopened since Easter but there are plans to do so next week. We believe about 1600 schools will not reopen due to being flooded, destroyed or being used to house displaced people.
Snakes have infested flooded houses near us, something we have fortunately avoided. However, last Monday the school was invaded by poisonous centipedes and insects landing on skin causes serious inflammation. As a result we have had to send £500 to help deal with this , funds from our already overstretched resources.
Demand on our funds is always high including paying higher prices for food at a time when our own crops have failed, being totally destroyed by the rains. So any help would be gratefully appreciated to alleviate this desperate situation.
For the future we hope to future proof our crop growing programme with more resilient crops as well as the use of poly tunnels, wind breaks and nets to soften the rain falling on the crops. If you have any ideas or suggestions to help please do get in touch.
LASTLY WE ALSO NEED ASSISTANCE WITH MEDICAL SUPPLIES AND EMERGENCIES ESPECIALLY FROM SNAKES AND INSECT BITES.
Apologies for such a long and wordy appeal but anything you can give will be greatly appreciated. Please consider making a donation using the Donate link below.
Many, many thanks.
