about us

This short video will introduce you to Imprezza Academy, Kenya and its wonderful work providing free education, food and for many, a home for its vulnerable pupils.

Meet the team

Catherine Omanyo is the founder and Director of Imprezza Academy, the school in Western Region, Kenya that Operation Imprezza supports. Founded in 2001, Catherine’s aim was to give children in Kenya who could not afford school fees the chance to learn. Pupils who could afford to pay would help fund the education of those less fortunate. She herself could not afford to go to school but achieved an education by sneaking into lessons and persuading a teacher to let her take exams. She was determined others would not have to do the same. In 2022, Omanyo was elected to National Assembly (Kenya) as county woman representative for Busia County

Trustee

I am a teacher, avid runner and mum of two teenagers! I started working at Torquay Girls Grammar in 2014 and instantly heard about Imprezza Academy through their fundraising events. However, it wasn’t until I met Bob Cross and Chris Hulme on a cold park bench during COVID for a 2m apart meeting, that I really understood why fundraising for the school was so important. They told me some stories of what the students in Kenya face on a daily basis and why at that time it was so important to replace the school vehicle. The stories were pretty hard cutting and I cried on the way home in the car, while being grateful that I have the means and opportunity to provide a different life for my own children.
Since then I have been desperate to help Catherine and the students at Imprezza. In 2024 I had the pleasure of becoming a trustee. I have quickly learnt that their supporters are like a family and I love meeting people at the fundraisers.
I hope to visit Imprezza  soon to see the school for myself.

Mike Lock OBE

Mike Lock OBE

Trustee

I joined Imprezza as a Trustee in 2024, having retired after over 30 years as Head Teacher at Combe Pafford School, Torquay. This is where I first met Catherine and Chris, having invited them to take part in a school assembly. We were all impressed, amazed and inspired by the journey Catherine, Chris, and Imprezza have been on, and as a school community we wanted to help support their development. To date we have raised enough money for a cow and four goats and hope to help the school become more sustainable by producing more of its own food.

I have a passion for travel and was fortunate enough to visit the school in September 2024. This helped me gain a deeper understanding of the daily work and the challenges they face. I hope to accompany a group of CPS students on a visit to Kenya in March 2025. We plan to spend some time at Imprezza Academy and then visit some of the national parks.
