The bulk of the money we raise goes towards the day to day living costs for the children. But we also need to develop the school's infrastructure and to help them become more self sufficient.

Our key priorities for funding

A New Dorm for the Girls

roofless classroom

When Mike, one of our trustees, visited the school in 2024 he was shocked to see the condition of the girls dorm and their washing and sanitation facilities. Since then he has been working hard to find a solution. He arranged for a survey of the existing structures only to find that they were of insufficient quality to do anything with. So we have to start again with a completely new build from the ground up. This is an urgent need. As of June 2026 we are pleased to report that we are in discussion with a potential donor.

We will keep you posted.

Restarting our Agriculture Projects

roofless classroom

We are really keen to establish a sustainable school farm incorporating crop production, poultry, dairy goats and dairy cattle.

  • A polytunnel with irrigation will enable year-round food production.
  • Livestock will improve soil fertility through manure production while providing eggs, milk and breeding stock.
  • Students will gain practical agricultural skills alongside their formal education.
  • Surplus produce can be sold locally to generate income for the school and create local employment.
  • The school would reduce dependence on charitable food support and strengthen the Academy’s long-term sustainability.

With our security fence in place, we are seeking funding for a farm manager and the essentials needed to get this project off the ground.  We already have some funds set aside for our dairy, poultry and goat plans but we need someone to manage the project and more facilities .

We will keep you updated.

Other important needs

A visit from the school inspectors earlier this year identified the following issues:-

  • Girls Toilet should be constructed close to their dormitory.
  • The floor of the dormitories to be fixed, both boys’ and girls’ dormitories.
  • Stalled bathroom and toilets to be completed; bathroom to be constructed for boys.
  • Laboratory floor to be fixed: Leaking gas taps and water supply system to be repaired.
  • Broken or missing window panes in the school buildings to be replaced
  • Hand washing points to be fitted with running water and soap in the Kitchen and toilets.
  • Cooks to wear uniforms including gumboots and apron in line with health standards.
  • A library to be constructed and equipped with the necessary learning materials for CBE.
  • Security lighting should be installed all round to light up the entire school compound.
  • The school building exterior to be painted including rusting doors and windows.

We need to find funds for all of these!

In addition:-

  • The 2 classrooms pictured could do with a roof!
  • The cooking facilities need updating

We will keep you updated as things develop.
